Dr. Issa Abrahaman Kachenje is a Tanzanian rural development researcher, academic editor, and educator currently based in Japan.
He is best known for his academic work in agritourism, sustainable agriculture, and community-based rural innovation.
Background & Education
Origin: Born in the Kilimanjaro region of Tanzania and raised in Arusha. He belongs to the Pare ethnic group.
Move to Japan: He moved to Japan as an undergraduate international student after winning a highly competitive tokubetsu ryugakusei (special international student) scholarship.
Academic Degrees: He completed his full higher education journey at the Tokyo University of Agriculture (Tokyo NODAI), earning his Bachelor's, Master's, and PhD in Rural Innovation / International Agribusiness Management.
Current Career & Research Focus
Research Specialization: His academic work focuses primarily on tourism-oriented farm diversification, sustainable food systems, and gender-responsive policy designs within Tanzania. He frequently collaborates on agricultural research with academic experts like Professor Yasuo Ohe.
Professional Roles: Outside of active field research, he serves as a journal editor for the International Journal of Environmental and Rural Development (IJERD) under the International Society of Environmental and Rural Development (ERECON) in Japan.
Other Activities: He works as an academic research fellow, teaches English part-time in Tokyo, and actively participates in international student summits. He is also an avid public speaker, writer, and painter.
